After purchasing my new 2006 Prius (Package #7) and receiving a price from the dealer to install XM for a tune of $725.00, I immediately started checking the Internet for other realistic options. I already had the XM service and simply needed to switch the service from the unit that stayed in the car that I sold to Carmax.
While searching online I came across www.FactoryInteractive.com. I emailed them right away and received a very quick reply from Jon. I made an appointment with Jon to come to my office in Springfield, VA and do the install in the parking lot.
Jon arrived precisely on time, immediately started working on my car, and was done in less than an hour. Once he had finished I was given a thorough demonstration of how to operate everything and had music playing on my new radio a short time later. I did receive the PriusXM kit, and I have it installed in my Prius. I also wanted to tell you that the installation was made very easy thanks to the video DVD that explains step by step how to install the PriusXM kit. I thought the installation would be difficult, but it was just the opposite. The installation process took about 2 hours. I am very happy with the system, and I thank you for the easy to follow installation instructions.

I gotta thank you. This install went by uneventfully. I love my new prius and was very hesitant to take it apart but your DVD made it a non issue and it works great!
You hit every possible issue during the install and I was never surprised with anything unexpected. I'm now enjoying full blown XM on my 9 speaker JBL system and it rocks! Keep up the great work and thanks for offering to help with any questions but your video was so well done I never had any :)

I received my Prius XM kit from Jon a few weeks ago. I had to do the installation myself, a little too far to drive to New Jersey from Missouri. I watched the dvd a couple of times first while reading over the instructions. After my first view of the dvd, I thought how am I ever going to do this, the job looked so intimidating having to tear apart nearly the whole dash. And after waiting so long for the car I did not want to damage anything.I started the installation in my garage the Saturday after receiving it. It was too cold outside to do it. I had some trouble getting off the first air vent, they are hard to grab and I was scared I would break it. After getting off the first air vent everything went quite smooth.
Having the dvd showing how to do it step by step was really a GREAT help than just reading the instructions. The dash is really easy to take apart, most of it just snaps in/off. There are only a few screws and a few bolts. Putting the dash back together was a cinch. Just those few screws and bolts and everything else just snaps right in. It would have been easier if I had better lighting in my garage, I used a trouble lamp.
All in all it took just a little over 3 hours to do it. I then called up XM radio to subscribe. I went for a ride to check for rattles and wait for the XM radio to be activated. It took about 45 minutes for them to activate it and their were no rattles.
I was quite happly with the install as I am not really mechanically adept. My roommate came out to the garage while I was installing it and said I hope you can get it back together again. That was the real easy part. It integrates nicely with the Prius controls. Voice activation works great. I usually listens to the local station on the way in to work and XM radio on the way home. The installation looks much harder than it is.

I have to admit that I was more than a little nervous about letting a complete stranger disassemble the dash on my "precioussss" (you Lord of the Rings fans know what I mean) but that was less daunting than doing the deed myself. Since my wife and I had to be in NJ for another appointment anyway on Saturday I decided to take a chance and made an appointment with Jon at Prius XM for a Friday installation. I arrived around noon so I ordered lunch delivered from a local restaurant that Jon was kind enough to recommend. While I waited for lunch to be delivered Jon was busy disassembling the dash and I got a good chance to get a look at the "guts" of "preciousss". Meanwhile my wife was upstairs happily surfing satellite TV (did I mention that Jon was a gracious host?). By the time lunch arrived and I finished eating Jon was already reassembling the dash with meticulous care. Within a few more minutes Jon had finished fishing the cable and installed the XM unit behind the carpet in the trunk; Jon even let me "help" a couple of times to keep me entertained.
Other than the new antenna, you'd never know there was anything but stock equipment in the Prius. In short, if you want a tightly integrated XM system in your Prius without resorting to clumsy mod kits or clunky FM modulators give Jon at PriusXM a buzz.

installation instructions I started on the install yesterday. I was pleased that when I
started the car and pushed the am button twice it worked - the first
time! You might want to consider selling "How To" videos as a new venture.In conclusion, I thought your video was great. It made the install so
much easier then it otherwise would have been and I didn't break
anything!

know of any other mods you come up with for the 04 Prius.

Jon did a meticulous job and I am very pleased with his
installation.Initialization of the unit was an easy process and after calling XM all the stations came up in about 15 minutes.
In another car I had installed the XM Commander which uses an FM modulation signal, however I felt the sound quality of the integrated solution from PriusXM was far better as this is directly connected. I felt that with the integrated solution the dynamic range is better with the highs being higher and more base that the FM modulated solution of the XM Commander which I thought sounded a bit mudder with the range clipped. Much happier with the Integrated Prius XM solution. This is the only solution that I have heard that comes anywhere close to near CD quality. The sound quality is superior than FM.
The only visible evidence that there is an XM receiver is the antennae on the roof. Jon mounted the XM unit behind the carpeting in the rear of the vehicle so you can't even see it. Jon is a stickler for details.
Operation of the unit is easy and is exactly as described by Jon on the PriusXM website.
Jon has put together a 40 minute DVD showing how to install the unit that he ships with his kit. It is well worth the price if you are thinking about installing the unit yourself.
For my money Jon's kit is well worth the price, as he has documented everything to make installation easier for those of you that want to install it yourself. And if you do not install it yourself Jon's documentation makes it much easier for a local car stereo shop.
If you are within driving distance of New Jersey I would strongly recommend a trip to see Jon.

I just had XM radio installed on my 2004 Prius (Salsa BC) by Jon August of PriusXM. It took about 1 1/2 hours, give or take. Of course, I slowed Jon down by my
constant questions. He did a really neat job and was a wonderful host too. Considering the excellent job that he did, it was well worth the money. Also, it was convenient for me since
he is located in north NJ and I am in the Bronx which is only an hour away. When I got home, I activated the XM service over the phone, and in less than an hour, I had 100 stations of digital audio. The system is integrated well with the touch screen, steering wheel buttons, dash buttons, and voice commands so far. I haven't played with the system much yet, but so far so good. My biggest problem now is what 18 stations to pick for one-touch dialing. Thanks again Jon.

I decided to spend the extra money on a completely integrated XM kit from PriusXM versus a cheaper FM modulator like the roady or XM Commander. This was the best
decision I could have made. The kit is as easy as plugging together a few pieces and the instructional video provided with the kit was a real lifesaver. I am not
very mechanical and this kit made it easy to achieve a super-professional install and the sound quality is unbelievable. If you want XM satellite radio in your
2004 Prius - this is definitely the way to go!
